Methodology

How this index is calculated

Scope. The index uses published WORLD PULSE articles available in the newsroom database. It is an index of our coverage, not a ranking of countries, publishers, events or the global news market.

Window. The headline metrics use a rolling 30-day period ending when the page is generated. Weekly activity uses four consecutive seven-day periods inside that window.

Sections. Each story is counted once under its assigned WORLD PULSE category. Percentages are calculated from the stories in the 30-day sample and rounded to the nearest whole number.

Source attribution. A story is counted as sourced when its record contains a source name or source URL. This metric describes metadata completeness; it is not a judgment about reporting quality.
