Mary Dickson, a resident of Castle Douglas, nearly missed out on the life-changing prize after ignoring phone calls from unknown numbers. When representatives from Omaze eventually reached her and arranged a visit to the reveal location, her confusion initially grew when the first thing she encountered was a live animal standing in a field.

Recalling the unusual moment, Mary explained that she initially encountered the animal and politely declined before realizing the truth. She remarked that upon turning the corner, she saw a horse and said thanks, but no thanks, before realizing she had won a house instead of livestock. She had entered the prize draw through her monthly subscription, paying just £15 for a chance at the four-bedroom property situated near the fishing village of Coverack.

The grandmother admitted she nearly missed the communications confirming her victory because she lacked a reliable mobile signal and habitually avoids calls from unrecognized numbers. After receiving a text message, she looked up the organization online and realized it was legitimate. Her family gathered to witness the reveal, leaving her completely stunned by the scale of the property. To celebrate, the family headed to a local pub, where Mary opted for a coffee while looking forward to enjoying a glass of wine by her new swimming pool in the future.

The four-bedroom prize property comes entirely mortgage-free, with stamp duty and legal fees fully covered. In addition to the multi-million-pound residence, the winning package includes £250,000 in cash and £200,000 worth of interior furnishings. Mary and her husband John, 76—who have lived in a modest terrace house in Castle Douglas since 2000—stated they are in no immediate hurry to decide the long-term future of the home. They plan to keep it for a while, enjoy the surroundings, and host a family Christmas.

The coastal home features panoramic sea views, direct access to Porthbeer Cove, floor-to-ceiling windows, and four double bedrooms equipped with dressing rooms and en-suite bathrooms. The layout also includes an open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, a study, conservatory, boot room, and utility room. Outdoors, the expansive grounds offer a heated swimming pool with a swim-up bar, sunken banquette seating, a fire pit, an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven, landscaped gardens, and a three-car garage. Despite the property's stable facilities, Mary confirmed that horse ownership will not be added to their list of new commitments.

Mary noted that she began entering Omaze draws after a colleague won a property in the Lake District in 2003, proving to her that ordinary people do win. The couple last visited Cornwall roughly two decades prior, traveling along the coast and staying in hotels, never imagining their next trip would involve inspecting their own multi-million-pound estate.
