Sydney Police Arrest 24-Year-Old Woman After Infant Found Dead in Bin

Law enforcement authorities in New South Wales have taken a 24-year-old woman into custody following the grim discovery of an infant's body inside a residential bin in Sydney last month. According to information released by ABC Australia, the suspect is believed by investigators to be the mother of the deceased child.

The development follows a police investigation that began in late August after emergency services responded to a distressing call in Sydney's west. Authorities confirmed that the woman was initially transported to a medical facility for assessment following her location by police officers.

Upon her subsequent release from the hospital, law enforcement officials executed the arrest. The 24-year-old was then transferred directly to the Auburn Police Station, where detectives and local authorities are continuing their active inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the infant's death.

The investigation traces back to August 31, when emergency responders were dispatched to an apartment complex located along Harrow Road in the suburb of Auburn. In the wake of the initial discovery, Acting Superintendent Darren Sly of the Auburn Police Area Command briefed reporters detailing aspects of the heartbreaking scene. According to Acting Superintendent Sly, the remains belonged to an unclothed baby boy and were discovered concealed within a plastic bag inside the bin.

Investigators at the time indicated that the infant's body may have remained inside the garbage receptacle for a period lasting up to 36 hours. Furthermore, authorities noted during their early public appeals that it remained undetermined whether the newborn baby had been born alive.

"It's very traumatic for that particular lady who found that baby," Acting Superintendent Sly stated during the initial press briefing shortly after the incident occurred.

"It's a newborn baby who now has passed away and of course it's sad and a horrific set of circumstances," he added, capturing the gravity of the event that shook the Auburn neighborhood.
