Trump Announces Triumphal Arch Will Double as Military Complex for Drones and Snipers

US President Donald Trump has announced that his proposed triumphal arch outside Washington, DC, will be redesigned to double as a high-grade military facility capable of deploying drones and snipers. According to reporting by BBC News, Trump stated that the updated plans are being pursued at the strong request of the US military and for national security purposes.

In a Sunday morning statement published on his Truth Social platform, Trump detailed that the structure will house, store, and provide the rapid ability to use large numbers of drones. He added that the complex will accommodate snipers on both the roof and plaza areas, along with holding large quantities of sniper ammunition in storage.

Trump asserted that there will be no facility like it anywhere in the world. He further claimed that out of 59 top global cities and capitals, Washington, DC, is the only one lacking a triumphal arch, though he did not specify which cities were included in that comparison.

Despite the major shift in the project's scope, Trump did not provide specific details regarding construction timelines or official architectural plans, and it remains unclear whether the revised facility requires additional legislative or local approvals. When contacted by reporters, the US Department of Defence declined to provide additional details regarding the president's announcement.

Construction on the massive 250-foot monument was originally expected to begin this month. The proposed site is located just across the Potomac River from Washington, DC, positioned just outside the historic Arlington National Cemetery.

Design renderings released earlier this year depict a towering structure featuring a golden, winged figure of Lady Liberty at the peak, flanked by two large gold eagles. Inscriptions on the monument are planned to include the phrases "One Nation Under God" and "Liberty and Justice for All" inscribed in gold on either side. At a height of 250 feet, or approximately 76 meters from its base to the top of the statue, the arch would significantly tower over the nearby 99-foot Lincoln Memorial and stand at roughly half the height of the Washington Monument.

The triumphal arch represents one of the largest infrastructure and architectural initiatives pursued by Trump during his second term. His administration has advanced several prominent construction and renovation projects aimed at reshaping the landscape of the US capital. These efforts have included a gilded aesthetic makeover of the Oval Office, the construction of a new White House ballroom estimated to cost approximately $400 million, the paving over of the historic White House Rose Garden, and renovation work surrounding the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

As the project moves forward, key questions remain regarding the precise operational role of the military complex, how it will integrate with neighboring federal and memorial sites, and what formal approvals might still be necessary before construction officially gets underway.
