According to Times of India World, Sunshine Buns, a frozen cinnamon roll company based in Orem, Utah, has successfully raised $7 million in Series A funding. The capital injection is intended to support the company’s nationwide growth, specifically by increasing production capacity, bolstering marketing efforts, and facilitating hiring as the brand scales its presence in major retail chains.

Founded in 2022 by Chrisi Hammer, her husband Matt, and friends Brian and Kass Martin, the business originated as a small, home-based project. The founders initially managed sales through private social media messages and local deliveries. According to Chrisi Hammer, the decision to formalize the company occurred after they saw an immediate sell-out following their first Instagram post. The brand’s products, which feature a recipe created over 45 years ago by Hammer's mother, have since expanded from a local storefront in Orem into the freezer aisles of retailers including Target and Costco, as well as regional grocers like Hy-Vee, Gelson’s, and Bristol Farms.

According to the industry trade outlet Food Business News, the Series A funding will directly support the inventory requirements needed to sustain this retail expansion. Co-founder Kass Martin stated that the company aims to make its products accessible in more locations where customers shop.

The company’s rapid growth from a neighborhood operation to a national brand was highlighted by its success at the 2025 Silicon Slopes Summit, where it earned top honors in the Startup Alley competition. The founders have attributed much of their trajectory to the support of Utah’s startup ecosystem and mentorship from regional brands such as Gimme Beauty, Retail Collective, and Mixhers.
