Trump Announces Planned Triumphal Arch Will Double as Military Complex for Drones and Snipers

US President Donald Trump announced that his proposed monumental triumphal arch will now double as a high-grade military facility capable of storing equipment and deploying snipers and drones.

Writing on his Truth Social platform on Sunday morning, Trump stated that the updated blueprints for the structure are being pursued at the "strong request" of the United States military and for vital national security purposes. According to the president, the combined arch and military installation will house, store, and provide the rapid capacity to use large numbers of drones. Additionally, the facility will accommodate snipers on both the roof and plaza areas while holding substantial quantities of sniper ammunition in storage.

Trump provided no specific details regarding construction timelines or operational plans, and it remains unclear whether the facility will require further administrative or legislative approval. "There will be no facility like this anywhere in the World," Trump wrote on social media, adding that out of fifty-nine prominent cities and capitals globally, Washington, DC, is the only one lacking a triumphal arch, though he did not specify which cities formed that list.

Construction on the 250-foot monument, slated for a location across the Potomac River from Washington, DC, just outside Arlington National Cemetery, was anticipated to begin this month. Design renderings released earlier this year depict a golden, winged figure of Lady Liberty perched atop the structure, flanked by two golden eagles. The monument is designed to feature the phrases "One Nation Under God" and "Liberty and Justice for All" inscribed in gold on opposite sides.

Standing at 250 feet, or approximately 76 meters, from its base to the apex of the golden statue, the proposed edifice would significantly tower over the nearby 99-foot Lincoln Memorial and reach roughly half the height of the Washington Monument. When reached for comment regarding the president's announcement and the reported military request, the United States Department of Defense declined to provide additional details.

The triumphal arch project represents one of the most ambitious architectural undertakings pursued by Trump during his second term. Throughout his current tenure, the president has championed several major construction and aesthetic initiatives aimed at reshaping the nation's capital. These efforts have included a gilded redecoration of the Oval Office, the planning and construction of a White House ballroom estimated to cost approximately $400 million, alterations to the White House Rose Garden, and renovations centered around the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

While previous design disclosures emphasized the classical and patriotic motifs of the arch, the newly announced military integration introduces a functional defense element to the landmark.
