The Japan Times to Host Its First Overseas School Fair in Taipei Highlighting Japanese Boarding and International Schools

The Japan Times has announced plans to host its first-ever overseas school fair, scheduled to take place in Taipei, Taiwan, on Sunday, October 11, 2026. According to the organizers, the event aims to introduce Japanese boarding schools and international educational institutions as a new learning option for students and parents in Taiwan.

The publication, led by Chairperson and President Minako Suematsu, stated that registration for the event is currently open. The fair is designed for children aged 5 to 18 and their families who are considering overseas studies or enrollment in international academic environments within Japan.

A total of seven Japan-based institutions are scheduled to participate in the upcoming showcase. The participating schools reflect a diverse range of educational philosophies, spanning from institutions incorporating traditional British educational approaches to those with independent academic frameworks.

The roster of participating schools includes Epsom College Tokyo, which is slated to open in 2027, alongside Jinseki International School, Kumamoto International School, NUCB International College, Gordonstoun Japan – West, Harrow International School Appi Japan, and Rugby School Japan. Organizers noted that the participant list remains subject to change.

The day's schedule at the W Taipei hotel in the city's Xinyi District begins with the venue opening at 10:00 a.m., followed by a keynote presentation at 10:20 a.m. delivered by Michael Rob Gray, former longtime headmaster of Switzerland's Le Rosey boarding school. Gray's address is titled "The Evolution of the International Educational Environment in Japan."

Beginning at 11:00 a.m., individual participating schools will host presentations complete with interpretation services. These sessions are intended to provide comprehensive overviews of each institution's educational policies, learning environments, and boarding life.

In the afternoon, starting at 13:00, the event will transition into a structured individual consultation segment. This portion of the program allows families to speak directly with admissions representatives from the various schools, with each session scheduled for 20 minutes on a pre-reservation basis. The fair concludes at 16:00.

While admission to the overall event is free, the afternoon individual consultations require advance booking. The event is organized entirely by The Japan Times, with inquiries being handled by the publication's agency division and the school fair secretariat overseen by Sugiyama.

Established in 1897 during the Meiji era, The Japan Times operates as Japan's oldest English-language newspaper. The publication launched its digital presence in 1996 and continues to distribute news concerning domestic developments and international affairs to audiences ranging from foreign residents in Japan to global government officials, think tanks, and media organizations.
